Zelda Popkin: The Life and Times of an American Jewish Woman Writer.  Dr. Jeremy Popkin (University of Kentucky) shares his grandmother with us in this newly published book that examines the life and contributions of an indominable woman who led an adventurous life.  Working in the male-dominated and ruthless world of public relations in the 1920s, she began writing fiction in the 1940s, including the some of the fiction dealing with the Holocaust.  Her life as shared by her son is a story of all strong women, but particularly the experience of American Jewish women, who faced a different set of struggles than the men of their generation and the community at large.  Zelda fought strongly against antisemitism in private and public places, and her words resonate today.

This presentation is part of the supporting programming for "Americans and the Holocaust: A Traveling Exhibition for Libraries" which is made possible by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the American Library Association.
