A Story of Devoted Friendship: Black and White. Jacqueline Hamilton, professor of English at Eastern Kentucky University and member of the Kentucky Humanities Speaker's Bureau, shares the amazing story of Mrs. Lincoln's dressmaker, Elizabeth Keckly. Formerly a slave, dressmaker to not only Mrs. Lincoln but also the wives of Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee, Mrs. Keckly became a noted author and activist. Her unique position as Mary Lincoln's confidant and her place in the crux of a national crisis, makes her story a fascinating look at our nation's struggle with equality.
Space is limited. Registration is required.
Our many thanks to the Kentucky Humanities and their sponsors for making this event possible.
