“My Old Kentucky Home” was written as a minstrel song about the slave trade. Since 1853, Stephen Foster’s song has become a beloved melody, a celebratory anthem, and an integral part of American folklore and culture. The Kentucky legislature adopted Foster’s song in 1928 as the state’s song. Emily Bingham will explore the wrenching story of the slave told in the song and its legacy two centuries hence.

This program is a joint presentation of the Scott County Historical Society and the Scott County Public Library.
