Program Description

Event Details

In 1944, the Pacific front of World War II experienced two disasters that were largely covered up from American history.  The West Loch Disaster at Pearl Harbor which killed 163 people, was blamed on Black sailors and was classified for years.  The Port Chicago Disaster killed 320 people.  Instead of charging any officers for unsafe procedures, the Navy charged and convicted 50 Black sailors of mutiny when they refused to continue working in dangerously unsafe conditions.

The Military History Group is a bimonthly discussion group.  Please come prepared to offer your own knowledge of history and contribute toward making this an interesting session.
