Lecture
Our lecture presentations are provided by knowledgeable presenters who are trained in their fields or sharing their personal experiences.
Join Roda Ferraro, curator of Keeneland Library’s The Heart of the Turf: Racing’s Black Pioneers traveling exhibit hosted by Scott County Public Library during the month of February 2026, for a talk with Q&A that highlights the lives and careers of African American horsemen and women from the mid-1800s to today. From racetrack superstars to behind-the-scenes caretakers, The Heart of the Turf showcases local history and select stories of the countless African Americans who forged their way in the Bluegrass and beyond, making the racing industry what it is today.
Ferraro will provide program attendees with a free copy of The Heart of the Turf: Racing’s Black Pioneers exhibit companion book – the first chronicle of its kind and a local history must-read.
