Steel Appeal: Live Steel Drum Education and Performance

Discover how steel drums are made from oil barrels and turned into amazing musical instruments!  In this fun and educational program, the audience will learn about the history of steel pans, how they are tuned, and how music works through tempo, rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, and timbre.

The presenters bring real steel pan instruments including up to two large bass pans, a double second harmony pan, a lead melody pan, and beginner pans. Through live demonstrations and music examples, the audience will hear how each instrument works together to create exciting musical sounds.

Free performance sponsored by Southern Elementary PTA.  Doors close when capacity is reached.

Room will be loud.  Please bring your own noise-reduction headphones, if required.  

Concert will begin promptly at 5:00pm.
