Event Details
Springs/Spring Houses of Scott County. Springs were perceived by pioneer Kentuckians as superior to any other water source. They determined the location of bluegrass communities such as Georgetown and Lexington. There were types of springs that provided for different needs. As farms were established, settlers would build one room stone structures over springs to prevent plants and animals from falling in and to provide refrigeration for food. Gary O'Dell will talk about Scott County's springs and their houses.
This program is in partnership with the Scott County Historical Society.
