In her new book of essays, Small Acreages, Georgia Green Stamper talks about what Wendell Berry has called the 'small acreages of the universe that have been entrusted to us' for 'safekeeping.' This includes the history and maintenance of our communities, our kinships and marriages, and our cultural traditions of food and homemaking. A native of neighboring Owen County, Mrs. Stamper will talk about the significance of Eagle Creek for both Owen and Scott Counties. She is a regular contributor to Kentucky Humanities magazine and a local NPR commentator. Small Acreages was selected as one of ten national semi-finalists for PENAmerica’s 2023 Art of the Essay Award.
This program is a joint presentation of the Scott County Historical Society and the Scott County Public Library.
